Aim: To ensure the learner has the skills and confidence to safely load and unload a goods vehicle, understand the risks to drivers and others. Be able to safely carry goods and be aware of the transport and international transport regulations.

Objectives:

  • By the end of the session the learners will understand;
  • Risks involved when loading, transporting and unloading a vehicle.
  • Understand maximum weights and lengths of the vehicle and each axle.
  • Dangers and possible consequences of overloading vehicles.
  • Forces affecting vehicles and loads. 
  • How weather conditions can affect the safe operation of transporting goods.
  • The DVSA's approach to identifying risk or failure of correct load restraints.
  • HSE guidance on load restraint during loading, transporting and unloading.
  • Manual handling when loading and unloading.
  • Consignment notes and international documentation.
  • Criminality and theft from vehicles.

Qualification: 1 module toward DCPC card
